White Balance & Colour 342/365

In : Uncategorized, Posted by on Dec.12, 2009

I realize I’m leaving this to the very end…I did have hopes to include some photography information in my blog!

When I came across this picture, it really stood out to me that this would explain alot!

Do you notice the colours?  Everything in this picture is white, but it doesn’t appear that way, does it?  I was standing in the shower and my flash fired (pointed towards the ceiling) so that is the shot of WHITE white…but notice the light that is from the ceiling lights…it’s a peach colour…which makes the walls, ceiling & mirror frame appear that way.

This is a photographers task…make white appear white, no matter what the situation. Skin tones are tough, because our eye sees and recognizes skin as correct or incorrect quickly as it is so familiar to us!  I use a grey card or white paper to set my ‘white balance setting’ often when I’m setting up for a session.

If you want to learn more…you’ll need to do a lot of reading, or have a photographer explain it to you.

Here is a link that you can start at!

Anyway…this is my picture from today:

“let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…” 340/365

I’m not a snow lover, but there is something special about a white christmas!  Everything is still pretty green around here…so it’s nice to have even a light dusting of snow!

Today Eric and I went to a Christmas Sing Along at the church.  It was nice, candles glowing a tree with lights set up and then they dimmed the lights…It must have been cozy, Eric slept through almost the whole service!

On our way home we drove through the Christmas lights displays in town.  Eric loved it!

Love that the truck looks like it is moving in this picture…what actually happened was Eric moving my camera while it was on the tripod!  Who knew it would turn out so great!

I’m thinking of upgrading…Eric thought I might like the ‘lego’ model! jk, jk

They kids are always doing ‘farming’ type stuff…playing with tractors or animals..it is nice to see some of what I do shine through from time to time!  Eric asked me to come by the big window and take a picture of his new cam!

Keith Sinke Home Improvements! 336/365

In : Uncategorized, Posted by on Dec.12, 2009

Today was a great day of picture taking.  A new challenge for me as I am used to photographing people.  The subject was work Keith has done in many different homes.  We are working on a portfolio for his business to showcase some of the options clients have, as well as display some of the creative work he has accomplished.

I must say, I was quite surprised!  The fireplaces he designed, built and installed were amazing.  They really stood out to me as very personal, (unable to pick up at your local building store) and well done!  One client mentioned that they recently moved to town after living on a farm for years and years.  Keith took one of the old barn beams and moved it into town AND made it look great!  You will notice in the picture below the attention to detail.  I love the ceiling detail in this home as well!

This is a link to the deck I photographed for him at the beginning of the year!

Here it is:

Forgotten Cookies!

Preheat oven to 350F.  Beat until creamy 2 egg whites.  Gradually add 2/3 cup sugar, beat until very stiff.

Stir in gently 1 bag of chocolate chips or M&M’s (M&M’s are the best)

Drop by teaspoonfuls on a foil covered cookie sheet.  Place in oven, turn oven off immediately and DO NOT OPEN the door of the oven until morning (hence the name)!

Thanks so much to my sister in law for lending me her mixer!  Love this thing…I’m getting tonnes of use out of it!

Babies First Christmas! 333/365

In : Uncategorized, Posted by on Dec.12, 2009

At a baby shower, this mom was given a gift certificate for A Shot Of Life!  I was so excited when they called to book a session for ‘B”s First Christmas!  I love that mom bought a cute new dress and had her all dolled up when I arrived!  With the Christmas tree as a back drop we worked on capturing lots of smiles and some nice family memories!

It was great meeting with your family!  I will have the session gallery ready shortly!
